Obituary
Professor C.K. Prahalad
Globally renowned management Professor CK Prahalad passed
away on 17th April 2010 after a brief illness at a San Diego
hospital. He was a Professor of Corporate Strategy at the
Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, and was well
known for writing best-sellers on management subjects, including
‘The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid: Eradicating Poverty
through Profit’.
Among Prahalad's popular management and
business books was ‘The Future of Competition: Co-Creating
Value with Customers’ and ‘The Multinational Mission, Balancing
Global Integration with Local Responsiveness’. His book on
the Bottom of the Pyramid, however, remains the most talked
about and is considered relevant for developing economies
like India, where businesses have a long way to go before
they touch people at the lower end of the economic and social
strata. Condoling his death, Indian industry as well as academia
paid rich tributes to the decorated management professor.
Professor C.S. Venkata Ratnam
Professor C. S. Venkata Ratnam, the Director of the International
Management Institute (IMI), Delhi passed away in the early
morning of April 16, 2010 after a prolonged illness. He had
joined IMI as Professor in 1986 and became the Director in
January 2005. An eminent scholar in the area of Industrial
Relations & Human Resource IMI, Delhi and under his able
leadership, IMI grew significantly in terms of faculty size,
academic programs, intellectual capital and many new industry
facing activities. Our deepest condolences to the family and
his loved ones during this difficult time.
Professor Udai Pareek
Professor Udai Pareek was a great researcher, consultant,
philosopher and teacher in Psychology. He was the past Editor
of the Journal of Health Management, Indian Psychological
Abstracts, Vikalpa and consulting Editor of Administrative
Science Quarterly. He had authored and edited around 60 books
and more than 350 papers in his lifetime and received many
national and international awards in the field of human resource
development.
He focused research on different psychological issues (training
and development, role stress, organizational design, transformational
leadership) in both unorganized (agricultural, small scale
industries) and organized sectors. Our deep condolences to
the family and his loved ones during this difficult time.
